Three women arrested from Gayle, three other WI players' rooms

Three women, reportedly British nationals, were arrested by Sri Lankan police this morning after they were found socialising in the rooms of four West Indian players including star batsman Chris Gayle."At least three girls of British nationality have been arrested for unauthorised entry by the ministerial security division when they entered the hotel floor of the rooms of the West Indian cricketers," a statement from the police spokesman and superintendent, Ajith Rohana, said. They have been handed over to the Cinnamon Gardens police for further investigations.[caption id="attachment_478312" align="alignleft" width="380"] The big hitting left hander was among those in whose room where one of the women was found. AP[/caption]The arrests came ahead of the West Indies semi-final clash against Australia of the ICC World Twenty20 championship, scheduled for Friday. This was to be the third incident of police involvement in the World T20 hosted by Sri Lanka.Meanwhile, AFP said that the women were reportedly guests of Gayle and his teammates Andre Russell, Fidel Edwards and Dwayne Smith, and officials insisted it was not a breach of security."There was no wrongdoing on the part of the players or the women and we are surprised at the police action," an unnamed source in the hotel was quoted as saying.Neither the West Indies cricket board nor the ICC has issued any statement on the issue.The incident comes after an intruder reportedly managed to make his way to the rooms of two Australian cricketers on 24 September, an incident which was dubbed a "minor isolated incident" by the ICC, while a Briton was remanded for stealing tickets from a Colombo ticket counter.Sri Lankan police said a tight security cordon covers players in accordance with strict anti-corruption guidelines of the ICC.
