Won't back down: Krittika writes to Clinton

Krittika Biswas, an Indian diplomat's daughter, who was wrongfully accused of 'cyber bullying' has now sought help from US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Her lawyer Ravi Batra has written a letter to Clinton saying that there was violation of diplomatic privilege granted to the Indian Consul General Debashish Biswas' family, according to a CNN IBN report. The letter also demands immediate review and issuance of new interpretation that enables privileges granted by the Vienna convention.

Screen grab from IBN Live."][/caption]The lawyer had earlier ruled out the need for a 'diplomatic immunity' for Krittika.The Indian Consul General in New York Prabhu Dayal earlier said the arrest of Krittika Biswas is illegal and that she has diplomatic immunity.Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Affairs reads, "the competent authorities of the receiving State shall, without delay, inform the consular post of the sending State if, within its consular district, a national of that State is arrested or committed to prison or to custody pending trial or is detained in any other manner."Dayal slammed the US State Department for violating the Vienna Convention which clearly states that diplomatic immunity is extended to family members of consular officers.The 18-year-old whose father is a Vice Consul General of India had filed a lawsuit against New York City and sued mayor Michael Bloomberg for $ 1.5 million for "unwarranted arrest and unlicensed detention.”
