War crimes court seeks arrest of Kenyan on crimes against humanity charge

Amsterdam: The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for a man suspected of corrupting prosecution witnesses in the war crimes case against Kenya's Deputy President William Ruto.[caption id="attachment_1148073" align="alignleft" width="380"] William Ruto. AP image[/caption]Judge Cuno Tarfusser at the Hague, Netherlands-based court said Wednesday that 41-year-old Walter Basara is suspected of attempting to bribe a potential witness. Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda alleged separately that she is investigating a "network of people who are trying to sabotage the case" against Ruto by interfering with prosecution witnesses.Basara could not immediately be located in Kenya for comment. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 5 years.Ruto has pleaded not guilty to charges of crimes against humanity for allegedly orchestrating violence in the aftermath of Kenya's 2007 presidential election. His trial resumed Wednesday after a 2-week recess.AP
