Typhoon Koinu is moving towards the southern province of Guangdong and the island of Hainan, China warned on Saturday, bringing large waves, torrential rain, and high winds.According to the State Oceanic Administration, which issued an orange alert, the second-highest in a four-colour warning system, waves up to nine metres high were anticipated in the South China Sea under the force of the storm on Saturday and Sunday.According to the National Meteorological Centre, Koinu—which is Japanese for "puppy"—is moving west along China's southern coast at a speed of 5 to 10 kmph.From late on Monday, it is predicted to deteriorate into a potent tropical storm.Koinu had caused some of the most severe devastation on isolated Orchid, killing one person and injuring over 400 others in Taiwan.(With agency inputs)
