Trump inauguration singer Jackie Evancho wants to 'enlighten' president on transgender rights

Washington: More than a month after performing at President Donald Trump's inauguration, singer Jackie Evancho says she and her transgender sister want to meet with him about transgender rights.The 16-year-old made the request in a tweet on Wednesday night.The tweet followed the Trump administration's move on Wednesday to end federal protection for transgender students that allowed them to use public school bathrooms and locker rooms matching their gender identities. Singer Jackie Evancho said she was disappointed by that. Evancho appeared alongside her sister, Juliet, on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Thursday. Juliet Evancho said they hoped to "enlighten" the president. Evancho told ABC's "Good Morning America" that she had not heard from Trump after asking him via Twitter to meet with her and 18-year-old transgender sister Juliet, who was born "Jacob." Evancho sister said she deals with discrimination "every day" with people saying "horrible things" to her. The former "America's Got Talent" contestant sang the national anthem at Trump's 20 January inaugural and tells 'GMA' that she would do so again. She said she sang not because of politics, but for "the honor and privilege" of performing for her country. Also, Caitlyn Jenner is taking President Donald Trump to task for his administration's reversal of a directive on transgender access to public school bathrooms. Jenner addressed Trump in a video posted on Thursday night on Twitter. She said, "From one Republican to another, this is a disaster." Jenner is particularly critical of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, saying, "Apparently even  becoming attorney general isn't enough to cure some people of their insecurities."Addressing Trump, the former Olympic champion says: "You made a promise to protect the LGBTQ community. Call me."Jenner came out as a transgender woman in 2015.
