Several feared killed in explosion at Guinea's oil terminal

A senior police officer stated that an explosion at an oil terminal in Conakry, the capital of Guinea, early on Monday is thought to have killed several people and injured more.According to the officer, "Yes, there are deaths and injuries," and they were still counting.A Reuters reporter said that the explosion shook the Kaloum neighborhood in downtown Conakry, blowing out the windows of several surrounding homes and sending hundreds of people running from the area.A huge fire and billowing black smoke can be seen from miles away as firefighters rushed to the area, while several tanker trucks hastily left the depot, escorted by soldiers and police.A spokesman for the government of Guinea did not immediately respond to a request for comment.(with inputs from agencies)
