'Post TikToks not CVs': Hilton Australia hotel chain has a message for jobseekers

The Hilton hotel chain is advising job hopefuls to submit a TikTok instead of a traditional resume when applying for a job.Hilton shared a video on its TikTok account @hiremehiltonau labelled “recruitment process at Hilton”, with the accompanying caption saying: “Looking for a job with #hilton? ​​#tiktokresume #hospitalitylife #hiremehilton.”In a 34-second video, Hilton encourages prospective workers to look for jobs that interest them and to apply by creating a "one-minute video or less that shows how you would make this day for our Hilton guests."The video tells viewers to post publicly from their TikTok accounts, tag the Hilton, and add the hashtag #hiremehilton.In another post on Instagram, Hilton said, "We’re shaking up the recruitment process by launching an industry-first #HireMeHilton pilot program calling on Aussie job seekers to ditch traditional cover letters and CVs and apply for one of our open roles with a video on TikTok instead!""All people need to do is follow @hiremehiltonau on TikTok and post a 30-60 second video on how they’ll ‘Make the Stay” for our guests memorable, in which role and location, tagging #HireMeHilton and our account. From there we’ll connect with the candidate and invite them in for an interview!," the post added.For those who are not on social media, there is still hope. "Your dream career might be just around the corner and don't worry if creating videos isn't your style – we're equally happy to accept traditional written CVs," the company says on its website.Hilton Australasia's regional director of human resources, Mary Hogg, told the Australian Financial Review that the firm chose the TikTok pilot in an effort to draw in millennial employees, and that worry about ChatGPT played a role in the decision.“When you need somebody who’s going to have really good interpersonal skills, to be able to handle guest relationships or any of that side of things, you’ve got no idea [if they can do that] from the paper side,” Hogg said.
