Pakistan: New Year celebrations banned in Karachi

The decision to ban New Year celebrations was announced earlier this month by Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Siddiqui."The country's current security situation also does not warrant New Year celebrations," Siddiqui said.He said hotels and other places would not be permitted to host celebratory events to the New Year. Pillion riding has been banned until 6 am Thursday. Security in the city has been tightened in order to prevent any untoward incidents.IANS
