Pak SC issues notice to Malik on his appointment as senior advisor

Islamabad: Pakistan's Supreme Court today issued a notice to Rehman Malik after a petition was filed seeking a stay on his appointment as senior adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior Affairs following the suspension of his membership of parliament.[caption id="attachment_367599" align="alignleft" width="380"] Reuters[/caption]A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, which is hearing the case, issued a notice to Malik.The petitioner, Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi, contended that Malik's appointment as senior adviser, after the suspension of his membership of the Senate or upper house of parliament, was illegal and violated the Constitution.The apex court has so far suspended the membership of nine members of national and provincial assemblies, including Malik.The court acted against Malik last month after he was unable to produce documents to back up his claim that he had renounced his British citizenship. At the time, Malik was the Interior Minister.Following the action by the apex court, he was appointed a special adviser to the premier so that he could continue heading the Interior Ministry.PTI
