Israel resumes fight against Hamas as truce breaks down; IDF says terrorist group violated operational pause

Heavy fighting was reported in Gaza as Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed "resuming combat" against Hamas terrorists on Friday, ending the truce. Israel also accused the Palestinian terrorist group of violating the ceasefire by firing rockets into its territory."Hamas violated the operational pause, and in addition, fired toward Israeli territory. The IDF has resumed combat against the Hamas terrorist organization in Gaza," IDF said in a post on X.Hamas did not meet obligationThe office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a statement said Hamas “violated the framework, did not meet its obligation to release all hostage women, and fired rockets at Israel.”“Amid the return to combat, we stress the government of Israel is committed to achieving the goals of the war — releasing our hostages, eliminating Hamas and ensuring that Gaza can never again threaten the people of Israel,” the Israeli’s PMO said.No list of hostages from HamasIDF also said Hamas did not provide a list of hostages to be released by 7 am on Friday (1 December 2023).Stating the violation of the truce deal, IDF said it had renewed its attacks on Hamas.IDF said several rockets were fired from Gaza just before 7 am, setting off sirens in the southern community of Holit.It further said the Iron Dome was not used to intercept the projectiles as they were headed for uninhabited areas. This is in addition to several launches around 6 am.The resumption of fighting between Hamas and Israel followed the breakdown of a week-long truce that began on 24 November 2023 and saw two extensions.The ceasefire allowed for the exchange of dozens of hostages held in Gaza for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners and facilitated the entry of humanitarian aid into the shattered coastal strip.However, IDF said, sirens warning of rockets sounded in Israeli areas near Gaza again on Friday just minutes before the deadline.Soon after the truce ended at 7:00 am local time, Israeli military vehicles were firing in northwest Gaza.A statement by the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Interior in Gaza said Israeli aircraft were in the skies above the area.The statement was released by Hamas soon after Israeli troops said it had resumed combat operations against the terrorist group, accusing it of violating the truce agreement by firing toward Israel.
