Indian-origin leaders shine in Forbes list of 250 most successful America immigrants

As the United States prepares to mark its 250th anniversary, Forbes has released a list of the 250 greatest living immigrants in America, recognising individuals who have made significant contributions to the country’s economy, society, science, culture and public life.

Among the 250 people featured on the list are 27 Indian-origin individuals, highlighting the growing influence of the Indian diaspora in the United States. The list includes business leaders, entrepreneurs, academics, investors, philanthropists and media personalities who have played important roles in shaping modern America.

Several well-known Indian-origin leaders from the technology sector were included. These include Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, cybersecurity entrepreneur Jay Chaudhry, venture capitalist Vinod Khosla and investor Naval Ravikant.

Economist Abhijit Banerjee, who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2019, also featured on the list. Television host and author Padma Lakshmi, former PepsiCo chief Indra Nooyi, and philanthropist Neerja Sethi were among the other prominent Indian-origin names recognised by Forbes.

The Indian contingent on the list reflects the community’s strong presence in technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. Other notable names include IBM CEO Arvind Krishna, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen, cybersecurity executive Nikesh Arora, Confluent cofounder Neha Narkhede and investor Kavitark Ram Shriram, an early backer of Google.

The list also features entrepreneurs such as Jyoti Bansal, Aman Narang, Raj Sardana, Jitendra Mohan and clean-energy pioneer K.R. Sridhar. Their work spans sectors including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software, healthcare, finance and renewable energy.

Forbes highlights immigrants’ contribution

According to Forbes, immigrants have played a major role in building the United States and continue to drive innovation, economic growth and cultural development. The publication selected individuals from a wide range of fields, including technology, science, politics, economics, media, arts and philanthropy.

The top five immigrants on the overall list were former California governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tesla and SpaceX chief Elon Musk, Google cofounder Sergey Brin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and media entrepreneur Rupert Murdoch.

List released amid immigration debate

The ranking comes at a time when immigration remains a major political issue in the US. The administration of President Donald Trump has pursued stricter immigration policies, including tighter Green Card regulations, increased deportation efforts and expanded border enforcement measures.

On Wednesday, the Republican-controlled US House of Representatives approved a $70 billion immigration enforcement package aimed at funding border security and deportation agencies through Trump's term.

Against this backdrop, Forbes’ list serves as a reminder of the significant contributions immigrants have made to American society, with Indian-origin professionals emerging as one of the most influential immigrant communities in the country.
