Contempt of court case filed against Nepal Maoist chief Prachanda

Kathmandu: Ex-Nepal Prime Minister and Maoist party chief Prachanda was today slapped with a contempt of court case for disrespecting the Supreme Court by threatening those who took legal action against former rebels for war crimes. Advocate Dinesh Tripathi, who filed the case, said the threat by Prachanda was an attempt to obstruct justice and challenge to the court proceedings. Earlier, Prachanda had warned those who tried to prosecute Maoist cadres for their alleged involvement in war crimes.[caption id="attachment_1061985" align="alignleft" width="380"] Prachanda. AFP. [/caption] The warning comes at a time when the government has initiated investigation into the case of murder of 16 years old school boy Krishna Prasad Adhiakari who was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by the Maoist cadres in June 2004. Adhikary's parents Nanda Prasad Adhiari and his wife Ganga Maya are currently staging fast onto death for a month demanding justice. Tripathi has sought maximum punishment for Prachanda in the case. As per the legal provision, Prachanda could be fined upto rupess 10,000 and sentenced upto one year in jail if proved guilty. PTI
