Nothing Phone 4b design revealed ahead of July 7 launch, sparking fan reactions

Nothing has officially revealed the design of its upcoming affordable smartphone, the Nothing Phone 4b, on Thursday. The smartphone from the London-based technology startup is scheduled to launch on July 7 and will be positioned below the existing Phone 4a and Phone 4a Pro in the company's lineup.

The design reveal has finally showcased Nothing's signature transparent design language, along with a new Glyph Bar interface on the rear panel. The handset also borrows several design elements from the Phone 4a Pro.

Official renders shared by Nothing highlight a new blue colourway, a transparent rear panel, and a Glyph Bar positioned parallel to the camera module. The transparent back showcases some of the device's internal components beneath the surface and features a textured panel accented by visible screws, staying true to the brand's distinctive aesthetic.

The Phone 4b follows a design philosophy similar to that of the Phone 4a. However, instead of the full Glyph Interface, the device features a compact horizontal Glyph Bar designed to deliver visual notifications, charging indicators, and app-specific alerts.

The dual rear camera system is arranged vertically within an oval-shaped module located at the top-left corner of the back panel. An LED flash and additional sensors are positioned alongside the cameras, while the flat frame seamlessly transitions into the device's curved rear edges.

Nothing says the Phone 4b offers improved durability through enhanced structural strength and a soft-touch finish designed to provide a more comfortable in-hand experience during extended use. The company adds that the device is intended to strike a balance between bold design and everyday practicality.

The company has already confirmed that the Nothing Phone 4b will be positioned below the flagship Phone 4 series in its portfolio. The handset was recently spotted on Geekbench under model number A024, revealing a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM. The benchmark listing also suggested that the smartphone will ship with Android 16-based Nothing OS 4 out of the box.

Users were quick to notice the design changes, with many drawing comparisons to CMF smartphones. Several commenters suggested that the device looked more like a CMF-branded handset than a traditional Nothing phone. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), a number of fans remarked that the Phone 4b "could have easily been a CMF phone," highlighting what they perceived as a shift away from Nothing's signature design language.
