Rejoice, ye iPhone 7 users, for the Yalu102 jailbreak for iOS 10.2 will soon be available for your device.

The Yalu jailbreak is currently functional on Apple’s other iOS devices, including the iPhone 6s and SE, reports TechTimes, but so far, hasn’t been functional on Apple’s newest iPhones.

Luca Todesco, the guy who created the Yalu jailbreak, tweeted the following on Twitter:
This brings hope to iPhone 7 users as now they at least know that a jailbreak for their devices is possible.

Note that the jailbreak is only for iOS 10.2 devices. The current version of iOS is 10.2.1 and there is no way to downgrade to the previous version. If you were smart enough to save your SHSH2 blobs (if you have to ask, don’t jailbreak), only then can you downgrade to iOS 10.2

TechTimes adds that the Yalu102 jailbreak is “semi-untethered, which means that the device will have to be jailbroken again every time it’s restarted.

Jailbreaking is a process wherein you “unlock” Apple’s iOS and install apps and services from sources other than the App Store. Apple locks down iOS and restricts app installs to only those from the iOS App Store. The only other way to install an app is if you’re a registered iOS developer.

Jailbroken iPhones are theoretically less secure than their regular counterparts. That said, you do get a great deal more freedom with your smartphone.

iOS jailbreaking is not the same as Android rooting, however. In iOS, you get the option of installing third-party apps and access to a few tweaks, but it’s still not possible to get complete system access the way you do on an Android device. You can’t replace iOS with another operating system, for example.
