Xiaomi to host media event today, could launch Redmi 2 or MiPad

Soon after its puzzle contest/teaser, Xiaomi had started sending out invites for an event which will take place in New Delhi today.The invite reads, "Taking it to the next level." Hugo Barra, who is the vice president International for Xiaomi, and head of India operations Manu Jain will be present at the event to unveil the new product.[caption id="attachment_258471" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Xiaomi invite![/caption]Last week, reports have been hinting at the launch of the Redmi 2, considering the recent launch of the new Moto E. Also, the company has discontinued the Redmi 1s, leaving it with no product under Rs 8,000 in India. The puzzle contest includes words like ‘Snapdragon,’ ‘QuickCharge’ and ‘expandable’. These features point at the possibility of the Redmi 2 as the other suspect, the Mi Note, doesn’t support expandable storage.In terms of specifications, the Redmi 2 has a 4.7 inch HD IPS display at 1280 x 720 resolution along with a 312ppi. The phone runs on a 64-bit 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor paired with 1GB of RAM and Adreno 306 GPU. It also includes 8GB internal storage, microSD card, 8MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera.However, the puzzle also includes words like Kepler, Tegra and Nvidia, hinting at the possible launch of the MiPad.The 7.9-inch MiPad is powered by an Nvidia Tegra K1 SoC with its four ARM Cortex A-15 cores clocked at 2.2GHz, a companion core for non-intensive operation or idling, and a 192-core Kepler GPU. It sports a Sharp display with an eye-popping resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, and a pixel density of 324 ppi. The spescs sheet also includes 2GB of RAM, 16 or 64GB onboard storage, microSD card slot for up to 128GB, 8-megapixel rear snapper and a 5-megapixel front camera.
