Xiaomi set to launch the Mi Band smartband on August 18th at a mere $13

Xiaomi is all set to launch its first fitness band, called the Xiaomi Mi Band, on August 18th. The Mi Band was announced at the Mi 4 launch event. It will be priced at $13 (CNY 79) or approximately Rs 789. Considering most of the fitness bands selling currently in the market such as Sony SmartBand SWR10 costing upwards of Rs 5,000, the Xiaomi Mi Band will be the first sub-Rs 1000 fitness band around. At this price point, the Xiaomi could take the reach of wearable tech to a new level, in case it is launched as a standalone device that works with other devices too.[caption id="attachment_229126" align="aligncenter" width="640"] An ad showing the launch date as 18th August[/caption]The Mi Band also comes with IP67 certification, which protects it from the elements such as dust, rain, snow and so on. It can be used to track activities such as running, walking, sleeping and so on. Also thanks to the water resistance up to one meter depth, you can also use the Mi Band to track your swimming motions. Another notable feature is its battery life. Xiaomi claims that the tracker offers up to 30 days of standby time. It isn’t a plain boring looking device and is available in a slew of colour options including bright pink, orange and blue. One of the interesting feature is its ability to unlock a device.
