Xiaomi launches Mi Band, an ultra-cheap fitness tracker

Along with the Xiaomi Mi 4 smartphone, the company has also pulled the wraps off a new fitness band. The band looks quite simple sans a display and other frills. However, from what we hear, it could be quite effective. Just like Xiaomi's smartphones, the band is dirt cheap compared to the ones available in the market priced at CNY79 (approximately Rs 789). At this price point, the Xiaomi could take the reach of wearable tech to a new level, in case it is launched as a standalone device that works with other devices too. However, there is the possibility that it may work only with Xiaomi phones.    It isn't a plain boring looking device and is available in a slew of colour options including bright pink, orange and blue. Just like most of the fitness trackers in the market, it tracks user movements and also sleeping patterns. One of the interesting feature is its ability to unlock a device. Another notable feature is its battery life. Xiaomi claims that the tracker offers up to 30 days of standby time. Moreover, just like most of its competitors, it is water resistant, so you do not have to worry about little drizzles or liquid spills.  There is no word on the availability of the device. We wonder if Xiaomi plans to bundle it with the Mi 4.
