Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One will be getting a launch-day patch which users will have to download before they can start using the console. According to Polygon, Microsoft has said that the update is "not tied directly to enabling offline functionality."
"A day one system update for Xbox One has always been planned to accommodate the differences between hardware and software manufacturing schedules. This update is not tied directly to enabling offline functionality of Xbox One, but is required for the system to function both online and offline," said Microsoft's spokesperson.

Microsoft had announced yesterday that its next-gen console will not need to be connected once every 24 hours to be able to play games offline. The console only needs an Internet connection while setting up the first time, after which it can play any game offline. Games bought from Xbox Live will also have the ability to be played offline once downloaded.
Along with this, the company also announced that gamers can now trade, rent, resell, gift and lend disc-based games to anyone else without all the restrictions that were present earlier. Microsoft is also removing region locking on the console. Games bought from any region can run on any Xbox One.
