Xbox One Game DVR will record 720p videos at 30 fps

A bunch of new information about the Xbox One has been revealed in a Q&A session between Xbox developer Marc Whitten and fans. According to the session on IGN, the Xbox One’s DVR game recording feature will only be able to capture 720p videos at 30 fps. This results in much-lower quality than when a game is being played, since many of the console’s titles will run at 1080p and 60 fps.

This can probably be chalked up to hardware restraints. Attempting to save a 1080p video at 60 fps results in the massive usage of space, and the console probably won’t be able to handle writing to the HDD while playing a game at the same time. According to Whitten, clips recorded with the Xbox One's Game DVR feature will be stored on the console's cloud. The videos will be accessible right from the Xbox One Guide.

720p videos at 30 fps doesn't sound that bad...

Another feature is the transfer of the Xbox 360's Avatars to the Xbox One. Whitten has stated that gamers will also have new options for gamerpics. Instead of 64x64 sized pictures, gamers can now go full HD with 1080p pictures.

Earlier, the Xbox One controller had popped up on online shopping websites in the US. Going by these listings, the controller seems to be priced at $60, which roughly translates to Rs 3,657.

The Xbox One is set to hit stores later this year. India, however, won’t be getting the console until late next year. The console is set to cost $499 (approx Rs 30,400).
