World's most expensive smartphone Vertu Ti in India for Rs 6.5 lakh

The world's most expensive smartphone, the bling-laden Vertu Ti is now in India for a whopping Rs 649,990.

The Ti runs on Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich which is more than two years old, but the company is clearly hoping that the fact that it is made of precious materials like gold, titanium and sapphire will be sufficient to make up for the lack of JellyBean.

After all, what is a mere JellyBean next to a phone made out of gold, right?

Clearly intended to be a status symbol, the phone screen is made of sapphire crystal display and is tested to be four times stronger than that of other smartphones and is said to be virtually scratchproof, says the Times of India.

Other features include components made of Titanium, black leather and polished black ceramic. Each unit of the device is handmade using 184 components in England by one craftsman, who also signs the device.

The phone also offers what the company calls Vertu Key lifestyle services. These services include a 24/7 concierge, exclusive editorial content, city guides and special, exclusive events and experiences, curated for the user based on his or her passions and preferences, according to the Hindustan Times.

Whether or not the phone will find favour with India's elite remains to be seen.
