As Wikipedia is getting more and more filled up with information, the opportunities for criticism arise and commending writers and editors has become almost non existent. And since people respond to positive reinforcement ,as well, Wikipedia's going to add a WikiLove button to the site, in an effort to provide writers and editors with some love so they continue to do a good job contributing to the site. The button will appear as a heart on the right hand side of the site and users can click on it if they want to commend an edit.A kitten or a beer for your good work

A kitten or a beer for your good work

The heart takes users to an area (they're calling it a "Love Interface") where they can choose what they want to send as positive reinforcement. Right now, its kittens and/or beer and/or barnstars. However, a make your own positive reinforcement button is also present. Of course, it's all virtual, no real kittens or beer will actually come your way in the mail for a well done edit. The kitten or beer shows up on the user's accounts discussion page. The love giving will be monitored by the folk up top at Wikipedia. The love button exists on the test Wikipedia page right now, and if all goes well, it is scheduled to go live this Wednesday the 29th of June.

Paddy does not, we repeat, definitely does NOT belong in the category of Mac-head (yeh right!). She does get excited by her iPhone and her iMac and her iPod Nano and her Macbook and Bali's iPad and her future iHouse (patent pending). Ok, so maybe her head is a little bit forbidden fruit shaped. She likes shooting video (iPhone 4 camera zindabad!) and editing montages (Final Cut Pro zindabad!), whether the scene calls for it or no. In her spare time, she's either kicking it on stage with KB the keyboard or kicking butt at Taekwondo.
