Western Digital Announce New USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drives

Western Digital have announced a whole range of new Portable Hard Drives that are compatible with the USB 3.0 standard. Consisting of My Passport Essential, My Passport SE Essential and My Book Essential portable hard drives, the new range tries to take advantage of high speeds to move large volumes of data quickly.

Here are the features of the hard-drives:

  • Dual USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 interface
  • Up to 3x faster transfer rates when compared to USB 2.0
  • WD SmartWare backup software
  • Password protection for privacy
“With more and more devices like the iPod touch, iPhone4 and other smartphones adding video-capable cameras, digital video is becoming ubiquitous. Most homes already have thousands of photos and music files, increasing the need for storage around the house.
