Video: Samsung Galaxy S4 interface and gestures demo

We got some hands-on time with Samsung's latest flagship handset – the Galaxy S4. In this video, we look at the design, build and interface of the smartphone. While the interface remains more-or-less the same as that present on handsets running the latest TouchWiz UX, there are some changes. Check out the video:

The biggest new change was the settings menu. Samsung has overhauled the settings menu to have a tab-based approach instead of the long list we usually get in Android devices. We also got a chance to test the new Air Gestures feature of the Galaxy S4, which lets you interact with the phone by simply hovering your hand over the screen instead of touching it.

It does different things, depending on the app. For example, in the gallery, it will show you a bigger preview of a picture, and will let you look at different pictures by sliding your hand over the phone without touching it. In the browser, on the other hand, hovering your finger over text will magnify it.

While these features were gimmicky, one of the standout features of the new handset is Smart Pause. If, while watching a video on the phone, you look somewhere else, the S4 detects this using the front-facing camera and pauses the video.

Even the camera has some neat tricks up its sleeve, like taking pictures when someone says “Cheese,” or using Dual Shot mode to take pictures with both the rear and the front camera at the same time.
