Yesterday was the day, where many anonymous sources decided to reveal a lot of information pertaining to the upcoming Apple devices. While it may be certain that Apple will ditch the 3.5-inch display they have used on their last five iPhones in favour of a 4-inch or so, a report by 9to5Mac claims that Apple is currently testing two prototypes of the iPhone 5, both of which feature a display 1136 pixels in height. This is a significant increase in comparison to their present model, the iPhone 4S, which features a height of 960 pixels.

The report goes on to explain that since Apple will be increasing the display size, they will also be increasing the number of pixels in height. iPhones presently sport a 3.5-inch display with an aspect ratio of 3:2. However, if these rumours are to be believed, then we can expect the next iPhone to support a native aspect ratio of 16:9. The report states, “Both of these phones sport a new, larger display that is 3.999 inches diagonally. Apple will not just increase the size of the display and leave the current resolution, but will actually be adding pixels to the display. The new iPhone display resolution will be 640 x 1136. That’s an extra 176 pixels longer of a display. The screen will be the same 1.9632 inches wide, but will grow to 3.484 inches tall.”
With this design change, Apple may also add to the number of rows featured on the homescreen, taking it to five rows from the present four on current iPhones. The sources have also informed the website about the dock connector that will feature on the upcoming iPhone, while further adding that the prototype features a dock connector measuring between the size of a mini USB port and a micro USB port.
