The next generation of the ZenFone series, the Asus ZenFone 3, is rumoured to sport a fingerprint scanner, which will be the company's first set of devices featuring fingerprint recognition technology. The device is scheduled to release mid-2016.According to a report by Digi Times, a source has indicated that Asus is likely to adopt fingerprint recognition solutions developed by Taiwan-based Elan Microelectronics and China-based Goodix for its upcoming ZenFone 3. In the past, Qualcomm and Intel have accounted for about 80 percent of ZenFone smartphones and MediaTek's for about 20 percent respectively. In addition, the company will also gear up for markets in Myanmar, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Egypt and Nigeria in 2016. According to the report, the company is expected to ship 20 million smartphones in 2015 and aims to ship at least 30 million units in 2016.According to a previous report, the Asus ZenFone 3 will sport the USB Type-C ports, says CEO Jonney Shih. Speaking to Trusted Reviews, Shih said, “I think Type C is the way to go, frankly speaking. You will see the answer when you see the ZenFone 3.” According to Shih, the reason for not including a USB Type-C in the Zenfone 2 series of phones was the cost factor.
