Twitter to stop counting mentions, media in 140 count from 19 Sept: Report

Its been a while that Twitter announced its changing what counts towards the 140 character limit. Twitter said soon it will treat each tweet as a canvas instead of message, with username mentions and multimedia attachments will no longer be counted in the 140 limit. However, the company didn't disclose a date and left it at 'coming soon'.Now, TheVerge, reports that the changes may be coming soon on 19 September. This means, quoted tweets, and media attachments like images, vidoes, polls, gifs, etc will no longer be counted towards the 140-character limit. User names will also not be counted, ensuring more room for discussion.Previously, we've seen reports on how the company planned to pull the plug on the count completely, and many felt the micro-blogging site would lose its essence. “It’s staying. It’s a good constraint for us and it allows for of-the-moment brevity,” Dorsey had told a news site. Soon after, the company removed the limit from Direct Messages, but ascertained that tweets will continue to be 140 characters only. Previously, Twitter has also said that links and photo attachments will not be using up characters in the 140 characters limit.
