Twitter testing MagicRecs-like account that will send you breaking news

Twitter seems to be experimenting with yet another hush-hush account that will deliver popular information to you via Direct Messages in the light of the IPO. The account, funnily called, @eventparrot, aims to deliver messages that “help you keep up with what’s happening in the world.”
Quite like the officially acknowledged @MagicRecs account, @eventparrot too says that it will send out information – or in this case “Breaking News” – via Direct Messages. MagicRecs was also started very quietly by Twitter in order to send out personalised recommendations for users and content. MagicRecs has now even turned into a mobile feature.

However, unlike MagicRecs, eventparrot is not sporting the white-on-blue verified checked box. The Next Web, though, mentions that a bunch of Twitter staffers have been following the account whose bio reads, “This is a Twitter experiment,”lending it some credibility.
Twitter seems to be in testing mode for a host of new experimental features. The company has in fact sped up the process ever since the news of its impending IPO filing became public. It could be possible that these experiments become official features soon, given how closely Twitter seems to be concentrating on developing its product.
With the MagicRecs experiment going off well, it looks like Twitter has realised that tailor-made trends and special delivery of messages from the service itself seems to be an idea that the users have warmed up to well. Eventparrot could turn out to be only the second step in a whole new direction Twitter seems to be taking. Even while this may give stiff competition to the likes of @BreakingNews, this is an idea worth putting in the money for Twitter.
Intrigued by all things social, Nishtha will invariably tweet about you. When not tweeting or writing about the next viral video, you will hear her proclaiming her love to Metallica, James Hetfield, Opeth, Akerfeldt and all bands that go 'growl'. She also obsesses about ACP Pradyuman and South Park and you will always find her moving around with a book. Her focus is on all the happening stuff in the tech domain, and she won't hesitate to take a shot at some of the oddball devices that make their way to our labs.
