How to enable Twitter Lights Out on Android

Different from the existing Dim dark mode which is blue/gray, 'Lights Out' makes the backdrop of the app pitch dark.

After rolling it out for te Alpa version of te app last week, Twitter as now started rolling out te AMOLED-black 'Ligts Out' dark mode for everyone on Android.Don't confuse tis for te dark mode tat as already been available for Twitter users. Te existing one, called Dim, is a blue/gray teme, wic can be triggered automatically based on sunset. owever, 'Ligts Out' makes te backdrop of te app pitc dark.[caption id="attacment_7288521" align="alignnone" widt="1024"]Image: Reuters Image: Reuters[/caption]Wit AMOLED screens becoming more common in smartpones and tablets, users started to demand a “true-black alternative for te Dim dark mode on Twitter. Listening to te users, Twitter rolled out te 'Ligts out' mode to Twitter Web and iOS earlier tis year, and now te rollout to Android as begun.

Wile, till now, te Dim mode was default, Twitter now defaults to Ligts Out wen turning on dark mode. If you prefer Dim, you can cange te 'Dark mode appearance' in te app’s settings.<2>[]Twitter Ligts out: ow to enable[/]If you scroll troug te tweet by Twitter about te rollout of Ligts Out on Android, you will see tat a lot of users ave complained tat despite updating teir app to te latest version, tey are unable to switc to te new dark mode.9To5Google, owever, found a way to enable te feature manually, we tested it out and it seems to elp. ere's ow it works:[ans][step]Step 1: Make sure you are updated to te Twitter app version 8.18.0.[/step][step]Step 2: Once updated, “Force stop” te Twitter app by eading to Settings, see your list of installed apps, select Twitter, ten coose Force stop.[/step][step]Step 3: Remaining on te same settings page, open te 'Storage & cace' page for Twitter, ten coose 'Clear storage'.[/step][step]Step 4: Now get back to te Twitter app, and immediately ead to te Settings app again and “Force stop” te app for a second time.[/step][step]Step 5: Now, open Twitter and toggle dark mode on. You sould now ave Ligts Out enabled on Twitter for Android.[/step][/ans]
