Valve's upcoming SteamOS is getting quite a bit of traction. After the recent announcement that Metro: Last Light will be one of the pre-installed games on Valve's Steam Machines, developer Creative Assembly has stepped up to announce that its recent strategy game, Total War: Rome 2, will be getting a release on SteamOS as well.

"We’ve always wanted the Total War franchise to be enjoyed by living room gamers, but the limitations of traditional hardware made our style of game play impossible," said Creative Assembly's Rob Bartholomew. "Last month, when Valve invited us to test out the new Steam Controller and unveiled their plans for SteamOS - we were impressed. We believe it will provide us with the control fidelity and platform we need to make a living room experience for ROME II that could be a more compelling experience than playing with keyboard and mouse." Coming to Linux

Since it is coming to SteamOS, Rome 2 will undoubtedly also be available on other Linux distributions as well. The game will be hitting the operating system some time in 2014, and will have support for the Steam Controller as well as Steam's Big Picture mode. These things will be added to the game "as soon as Valve gets us a controller dev kit," according to the company.
