Top reviews this week: HGST Travelstar, BlackBerry Z30 and more!

This week, we got our hands on BlackBerry's latest and greatest, a computer HDD and the new Lumix camera from Panasonic. Check out what we thought about them, in case you missed out on the reviews over the last seven days.

The HGST 5K1500

HGST 5K1500 or HGST 1.5TB laptop drives costs Rs 9,400 which comes to around Rs 6.72 per GB. This is quite a good pricing when compared with the other laptop drives seen in the comparison above. The drive offers great capacity, good speeds and economical cost per GB. As most PC peripherals sell at a lower price point than the MRP, if you visit your local electronics retailers, you might even get the drive for around Rs 9000-9200 in some places. If capacity is your main concern, this is the drive to go for right now.

The BlackBerry Z30

After spending a good week with the Z30, we find that it’s nothing more than an iterative update to the Z10, with a larger display. There are some welcome hardware additions like better sound, Wi-Fi Direct and bigger battery but most of the changes are software based so the asking price of Rs 39,990 seems a lot. With the Z10 now selling at a more sensible price, we fail to see why one would spend such a premium on the Z30, also considering one can get the G2 or the S4 in the same price range. Both flagships have a vastly bigger feature set, are more powerful and have access to a better app ecosystem. The Z30 makes a good buy if the price drops to about Rs 30,000 but for now, it’s too expensive, even for enterprise users.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF6

Panasonic Lumix GF6 is a good camera that produces good quality images. It comes filled with features such as creative filters, various SCN modes and Wi-Fi and NFC as well for those who wish to transfer images instantly. The high-res tilting LCD coupled with a responsive touchscreen makes navigation a breeze. Dedicated mode-dial makes things quicker as compared to the GF5. In fact, the GF6 is a much better improvement over the GF5. It does lack a hot shoe which can be a bit of a problem for those considering to get a dedicated EVF in the future, but that will be a minority.
