Are you ready to 'Switch Off'?

The Earth Hour movement has, in the 4 years of its existence, gained quite some momentum in landmarks like Asia, the Pacific region, Africa, Americas. The natives in each of these locations chose an hour of darkness to ignite a difference. In 2009, people in more than 4000 cities from over 80 countries officially took part in this initiative making it the biggest global climate change initiative.

In India too, the Earth Hour stirred a few souls. Although low in intensity, some (like with the Batti Bandh movement) actually went that extra mile for our planet. This year, amidst major changes happening almost in a sequence, the need for India to be a whole-hearted part of it becomes crucial.

But the question remains as to how many of us will really do that? Especially, in a country where power cuts are so frequent, what significance will a mere 1 hour cut have?
