Sony will cut prices for their Xperia series smartphones by up to 14% in India.According to a report in DNA, Sony smartphones in the Z, T, C, E and M series among others are set to witness price cuts ranging between Rs 1,500 and Rs 6,500. An announcement is expected soon.A senior executive from a consumer electronics retail chain has confirmed the price cut. "We have been informed of the price cut and it will be implemented across all Sony handsets available in the market," the executive said. The company's latest release was the Xperia Z3 which released just three months ago. This smartphone will also witness a price cut.Usually, companies prefer to decrease prices for their devices when they are on the verge of releasing new devices in the market. As there is no news or speculations from Sony regarding any smartphones, this could be an effort to increase their sales.Recently, Samsung launched Galaxy A3, A5, E5 and E7, four selfie-centric smartphones starting from Rs 19,300 in India. India is the first country to see the launch of the Galaxy E5 and Galaxy E7 smartphones, thanks to a good run for Samsung mobile division in the Indian market in 2014.
