Sony has confirmed that the Xperia L, the company’s midrange offering, is now being bumped up to run on Android 4.2. Since its launch in March, the device has been stuck on Android 4.1, the first version to come bearing the Jelly Bean name.

The decision to upgrade the phone’s OS may be a bit late coming, given that Android 4.3 has been around for some time now, and Android 4.4 KitKat is just around the corner. Despite this, the update is definitely an improvement, and should be welcome news for the device's users. The handset, when launched in India, was priced at Rs 16,399. Sony has now started rolling out Android 4.2 for the Xperia L

According to a tweet from the official Xperia News Twitter handle, the update can be accessed via a computer using Sony’s desktop software. You can also update your device wirelessly. If your smartphone has not notified you yet about the update, you can manually check by going to Settings> About phone> Software updates> System updates. Keep in mind, though, that the company has just announced the update, and it is likely that the roll out may come in stages.

After performing the update, Xperia L users will be running software version 15.3.A.0.26. Apart form bringing the Android version up to 4.2, the update will also come with a revamped homescreen experience, easier app tray sorting and new camera functions like a Burst mode. All of Sony’s media apps will come with new UIs. You can get more information about this from the company’s official website.
