Sony brings the Xperia X and Xperia XA to India

Sony has announced its new lineup of Xperia smartphones in India comprising the Xperia X and the Xperia XA. The company had first unveiled the smartphones at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2016 and had officially said that it will be replacing its Z series with the X. The new handsets handsets come with 2.5D curved 5-inch displays and continue to carry Sony’s rectangular slab design. Sadly though, Sony will not be bringing the high-end Xperia X Performance to India which features a Snapdragon 820 SoC.Xperia XThe Xperia X features a 5-inch 1080p IPS display which has a curved 2.5D protected glass on top with Sony’s Bravia engine technology to make the display look more rich. The cameras have been updated and include a 23MP rear unit with a 1/2.3” sensor and a fast predictive hybrid focusing system with some performance tweaks that enable it to go from stand-by to capturing an image in about 0.61 seconds. Sony admitted that the previous generations were not as good, but there have been improvements as the new auto-focus system has been closely monitored by Sony’s Alpha camera engineers. It lets you choose your subject and then predicts its motion, so you can capture better focused images. On the front there is a 13MP selfie camera that is claimed to offer better selfies, even in low light.Powering the handset is a Snapdragon 650 processor with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. Other features include a fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button on the right edge, a dual-hybrid SIM card slot, 4G LTE and stereo speakers with high-res audio output. Sony has used a 2,620mAH battery along with Quick Charge technology, smart battery management system as well as the company’s own Qnovo Adaptive Charging technology which helps in maintaining the overall lifespan of the battery.Xperia XAThe Xperia XA is a more cheaper priced option featuring a lower HD resolution (720p) 5-inch IPS LCD display but also comes with the same 2.5D curved glass and an edge-to-edge finish which makes the smartphone feel much smaller that a 5-inch smartphone. This comes with a 13MP main camera and an 8MP front camera and is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 64-bit octa-core chipset with 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage and a 2,300mAh battery.Both the handsets run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with a bit of Sony skinning which should feel like stock Android. The Xperia X has been priced at Rs 48,990 while the the XA comes in at Rs 20,990. The Xperia X can be prebooked from all authorized Sony mobile dealers and online exclusively on Amazon.in from 4 pm today while shipments will start from 6th of June and the Xperia XA will arrive in the third week of June.
