Simmtronics to assemble and manufacture Android phones in India

Simmtronics, an upcoming tablet manufacturer in the country, has some big plans under its sleeve, according to Times of India. The company is prepping itself to bring to the masses what will likely be the first Android smartphone “made in India”.

Officials from the company told TOI that they are in the process of bringing together tools and machines that would be needed to assemble and manufacture a smartphone in their factory near Delhi. The officials also told the website that even if they ended up bringing the first batches of their smartphones from China to be in time for the launch schedule, they would move to manufacturing them in India soon.

The company’s managing director, Indrajit Sabharwal, elaborated further on the company’s plans. He said, “Android smartphones sold by local players in India are assembled and manufactured in China. They are imported into India." Sabharwal said that they will manufacture their phones in India. To that end, they will source processors from Taiwanese or Chinese firms and manufacture the printed circuit boards and mainboards for the phones in their factory.

Simmtronics already has a number of its tablets in the Indian market, manufactured under the XPad brand. This year, the company launched its SIMM X1010 tablet in India for Rs 8,449.
