One of Google's lesser known services, Google News Archives, the service that came online in 2008 has gone dysfunctional, now. The decision came across after the search giant realized that publishers were using story archives to make money, and weren’t doing the expected i.e host them online for free.

The archiving service was started off mainly as a mode to make older newspapers easier to find online. The search giant, in its archives service has a collection of more than 3.5 million issues. Reports suggest that the archives will not accept any new digital processing orders, and thereby not see an increase in its existing collection.

The current ones, however, can be accessed on news.google.com/archivesearch. The existing digital archived copies will be forwarded to the respective publishers, so that they host them on their websites.
