Shazam launches an iPad app

Shazam, the music recognition service that is available for iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, Nokia and surprise surprise, Windows Phone 7 optimized its iOS application for the iPad on Thursday. The app also supports the Retina Display that comes with the new iPad. With Shazam, you not only are able to discover music that you like, you can also stream lyrics in time with the music with LyricPlay. The service is available on over 30,000 tracks and Shazam says that they're adding more all the time. You can share the soundtrack of your day on Facebook and Twitter, as well as watch YouTube videos of the band and song you've tagged. You can find tour dates for the bands and artists you're into as well as find concert clips. Shazam also allows you to manage your music. You can see your iTunes playlists and create new playlists on the go.

Shazam's listening

With Shazam, you can select your favourite songs and hide ones that you don't like and don't want to hear (much like the thumbs down symbol in Pandora). You can add to your music by buying new songs on iTunes from within the app itself. You can view your music by artist, album and/or title and use the Track Tray to see all the Shazam features available for each song.

What's a little different in the Shazam experience on the iPad is that you can save, manage and display your Tag lists on a single large screen. Music charts can be viewed in a single screen layout. While you can Tweet and Facebook your Tags, you can also send them as postcards to your friends. Existing Shazam apps like Shazam, Shazam Encore and (SHAZAM) RED will all run on the iPad. As of now, you cannot import your tags from Shazam on your iPhone to Shazam on your iPad but the company is working on it. 

The Tag stream is now full screen

Earlier in April, Shazam launched an update to their iPhone and iPod Touch apps which they say made it the world's fastest content identification and discovery experience for music, television and media advertising. With the update, music, Shazam-enabled television shows and advertising can be identified in as little as one second, says the company. The update also brought additional language support which included Brazilian Portuguese, Korean and Spanish. At the moment though, Shazam for iPad is only available in English. Shazam for iPad is available for free from the iOS App Store.
