If there’s one thing everyone likes, it’s movies. Gamer or geek, movies provide a welcome respite from the gaming and umm geekage and since we’re all about the Tech on this site, here are seven science-fiction movies that you should keep an eye out for in 2011.

Battle: Los AngelesIs it a bird or a plane? Nope it's just a hostile alien about to take over your planet

Is it a bird or a plane? Nope it's just a hostile alien about to take over your planet

It’s a normal day in sunny California, that is until an alien invasion destroys one of the most prominent cities on West Coast under the guise of a meteor shower. From then on, a marine platoon led by Two-Face himself (Aaron Eckhart) must kick alien butt and save the rest of the population from complete annihilation.

Off for some tea

Meet Paul. He loves doughnuts, flashing people and Reggae music. The only problem is that he’s an alien who just so happened to wander out of Area 51 into the laps of the funny Brits from Shaun of the Dead. With an evil FBI agent tailing them like a shadow, the two Brits must help Paul find his way home. PS: This has got to be one of the funniest trailers I’ve seen in recent times.

Aliens really aren't very punctual, are they?

Can you imagine how awesome Red Dead Redemption would have been if it had aliens in it? Well now thanks to Jon Favreau, director of Iron Man, you really don’t have to as he’s planning a mash up of these two popular genres with Cowboys and Aliens. As if that wasn’t awesome enough, you also have James Bond and Indian Jones kicking ass on-screen together for the first time.

Transformers: Dark of the MoonI spy with by big eye

I spy with by big eye

You know the drill. Tons of slow motion action shots, transforming robots, hot chicks, an annoying lead and mindless action pummeling away at your brain for two hours. Oh yeah and emo rock music.

Super 8

Life is way more intense through a broken lens

Life is way more intense through a broken lens

Super 8 has been shrouded in secrecy ever since its teaser trailer hit the net last April. Directed by J.J Abrams, the man behind TV show Lost and awesome sci-fi movie, Cloverfield, Super 8 tells the story of six children who unknowingly film a catastrophic accident while making some sort of a home video. During that accident, something not so human gets out and presumably starts owning stuff. No it’s not Cloverfield 2 sadly, but we hope it’ll be just as awesome.

Real SteelKick his ass... and his ass..... and his ass....

Kick his ass... and his ass..... and his ass....

Humans are a pretty barbaric race who’ve always been fascinated by a bloody fight. In the olden days Romans got their fix by pitting Gladiators against one another, today we have fighters kicking each other’s ass in the octagon and in the near future we’ll have 2000 pound robots duking it out in the ring for supremacy. Sounds cheesy? You bet. But then again watching two metallic behemoths beat the crap out of each other for two hours doesn’t seem like a bad proposition.

Sucker PunchKicking butt - and looking good while doing it

Kicking butt - and looking good while doing it

Sucker Punch may not be a conventional sci-fi flick but it’s got everything geeks like us love from hot chicks kicking serious butt to mini-gun wielding evil Samurais, robots, dragons and LOTS more. Oh and did I mention hot chicks kicking butt…in leather tights? Now tell me this doesn’t sound like the best movie ever.
