Samsung working on an Apple iPhone X-like 3D facial recognition feature for upcoming Galaxy S10

Samsung recently introduced AR Emoji may look the part, but definitely does not work as good as Apple's AR Emoji. The reason for this is the severe lack of 3D facial recognition and Samsung seems to be aware of the problem. To overcome this hurdle and even those related to a more secure face unlock experience, Samsung is planning to add a better 3D camera solution for its next flagship, the Galaxy S10.[caption id="attachment_4366781" align="alignleft" width="380"]

The dual aperture camera is the highlight of the S9[/caption]According to a report in The Korean Herald, an Israeli startup Mantis Vision which provides 3D camera features for mobile phones is developing a 3D camera solution for the Samsung's next flagship, expected to be called the Galaxy S10. The report mentions that the startup is collaborating with a camera module firm Namuga to integrate the 3D sensing software in a camera module. Namuga supplies cameras for Samsung's mid and low range devices such as Galaxy A and J. It also provides 3D sensing camera modules to Intel for its RealSense AR cameras.One billion smartphones are expected to have facial recognition as standard from 2020.Many smartphone manufacturers are trying to bring facial recognition feature similar to the one launched on Apple iPhone X. Oppo, Vivo, Asus and other smartphone brands have a similar feature that unlock smartphones through facial recognition. However, these are not secure enough to be used for making payments because they are 2D-based.Samsung recently launched Samsung Galaxy S9 and the smartphone also comes with facial recognition feature but again it is not as secure as the one seen on the Apple iPhone X.
