Samsung to reportedly roll out Tizen OS update for original Galaxy Gear

Though at nascent stage, we’ve seen more than a handful of smartwatches enter the market, and some others like the Android Wear-based Moto 360 and LG G Watch are on its way. Samsung’s not-so-popular original Gear runs Android and its latest batch of smartwatches – Gear 2, Gear Neo – run the company’s Tizen OS. Now, a source related to the matter told Techradar that the original Gear will also receive the Tizen OS update. This also means the original Gear will get functionality to run most Android apps, with some exceptions, thanks to Tizen's compatibility. Along with the new OS, we could see some extra functionality for the wearable.  It isn't yet clear how or when the company will deliver the update.  However, with Android Wear-based smartwatches coming soon, Samsung may do it sooner rather than later. Recently,  Punit Soni, VP, Product management, Motorola Mobility confirmed that the Moto 360 running Google’s Android Wear is slated to launch in India soon, probably within the next two months. Soni further said that the pricing would be highly competitive in India, and in line with the Nexus strategy.  Take a closer look at the Moto 360. The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are available in India starting at Rs 15,900. The smartwatches come with a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED screen with 320 x 320 pixels resolution. They have a 1.0 GHz Dual-core Processor. The camera is 2 megapixels with auto Focus in the Galaxy Gear 2. It is capable of full screen resolution pictures as well as recording in HD as well. Samsung has also equipped the camera to the main body of the Gear 2 instead of putting it on the strap. Both watches have 512 MB RAM and 4 GB total memory space. The watches allow users to take calls via Bluetooth, get notification from SMS, E-mail, and linked Apps. There is also S Voice, Weather, Times, StopWatch, a scheduler among other things.
