Samsung May Have Overtaken Apple, Nokia in Sales

According to a research company, Strategy Analysts, based in Boston, Samsung has passed Apple and Nokia in terms of second-quarter sales of smartphones. Compared to Apple’s 20.3 million iPhones and Nokia’s 16.7 million phones, Samsung have pulled off a sale between 18 million and 21 million smartphones. Also, Samsung have stated that 5 million units of its new Samsung Galaxy S2 have been sold in a period of 85 days. This definitely has accounted for a massive chunk of Samsung’s total sales in the second quarter of this year. To add to it, Samsung has yet not launched the Galaxy S2 in the US - the phone will be launching there next month.

Samsung surpasses Nokia and Apple in sales

The first quarter saw Samsung perched in fourth place, much behind Apple, Nokia and Research in Motion; however, this stat was computed before the launch of what is touted as Samsung’s best phone so far, the Galaxy S2.

Android’s dominance in the market seems to be increasing; but, it’s interesting to see what the launch of the rumored new iPhone 5 will bring to the smart phone market. Whatever the situation may be for these manufacturers, this competition seems like an interesting watch for the consumers for the rest of this year.
