Samsung launches Smart App Challenge 2013 for Galaxy S4

Samsung has announced its "Smart App Challenge 2013" for app developers offering $200,000 as the top prize of developers who build apps for the Galaxy S4 using the company's peer-to-peer software interface.

The participants must use use of the Samsung Chord SDK (software development kit) to develop apps. Chord is a software interface which allows sharing between Samsung devices via a peer-to-peer network and without using an online server or mobile phone network.

For instance Samsung Galaxy S4 has the "Group Play," option which allows multiplayer games or sharing music and photos among users without being online or on a mobile network. The entry period for the contest is from 20 June to 31 August and the winners will be announced in December 2013.

The apps must also be sold on the "Samsung Apps" marketplace and use Samsung's application programming interfaces (APIs) for in-app purchases and ads. The Samsung Apps marketplace comes with all Samsung Android phones along with Google's Play Store.

There will be 10 winners announced, with the developer in the first place getting $200,00,three second-place winners will get $100,000 each and six developers in third place will get $50,000 each.
