Samsung Exynos chipsets will be powering Audi's next-gen car infotainment systems

Samsung's Exynos chips are not just meant for smartphones anymore. The Korean tech giant has announced that Exynos chips will now be powering the in-car infotainment systems in the next generation of Audi vehicles. Samsung Electronics will soon start focussing on the semiconductors-for-cars market.According to Samsung, the Exynos chips can power multiple displays (up to four) and work with multiple operating systems in a car. In addition to that the chipsets have proven graphics capabilities and also provide quick read and write speeds according to Samsung.Samsung is looking at the automobile market with a renewed interest. Its series of acquisitions such as acquiring audio-maker Harman for $8bn recently, or its investment in Chinese electric car maker BYD to supply it with chips as well, is a clear sign.Samsung's subsidiaries such as Samsung Display has been making display panels for the car market. The Samsung SDI has been making car batteries for electric cars. Samsung also has a co-operation agreement with German carmaker BMW."Through the Audi Progressive Secmiconductor Program (PSCP), Samsung and Audi will work together to bring the best in-vehicle infotainment experience at the automotive quality level expected from the Audi brand," said Alfons Pfaller, head of infotainment development at Audi.
