Price war: Voda cuts international roaming charges by up to 95%

Vodafone India on Monday cut international roaming charges for both pre-paid and post-paid customers offering a discount of 95 percent on data and up to 78 percent on voice calls.

The roaming packs cover 53 countries including the UK, USA, UAE, Thailand and Singapore, the company said in a statement.
According to a report in TheTimes of India, the move will bring down the roaming charges to just 1 paise per second. In reaction, other companies are also likely to cut the charges, making international long distance calls cheaper.
Vodafone has launched 2 international roaming packages with rentals of Rs 599 (with a 10-day validity) and Rs 1,499 (30-day validity). The call tariffs for these packs are Rs 15 a minute and Rs 30 a minute. Incoming calls, meanwhile, will cost Rs 30 a minute. According to the ToI report, this is half of the present rate.
In data, the rates to download 30 MB have been cut by 95 percent.
