After rolling out specialty pins and boards in the recent past, Pinterest has launched Place Pins to satiate the traveler within you. This new feature adds places to pins – both existing ones and new ones – and visualises them on a map.

The new Place Pins were announced in an event in San Francisco yesterday. Justin Edmund, Product Designer for Pinterest also put up a blog post explaining some of these Pins’ features better. “About a year ago, we noticed Pinners creating more and more boards around the vacations they’re planning, special places near where they live and sites they want to see someday,” he wrote. “In fact, every day people Pin about 1.5 million places, and now there are more than 750 million Pins of these destinations on Pinterest. We asked ourselves, how can we help people turn their travel inspiration into reality?”Add all the places you want to see

There is a new board for Place Pins, with a map powered by MapBox taking up most of the screen. You can then start searching for places, using the Foursquare integration. Even as you search for places, Pins with images that have been clicked at the place will show up. It would be advisable to search for particular locations instead of generic city names.

Any new board that you create will have Pinterest prompting you to add a map to it. You can create a separate map-board or not choose it at all. Once made, you can collaborate with your friends on the board, if you’re going on a trip together. Meanwhile, you can head to the blog where you can find existing boards by travel magazines and other organisations for some inspiration.

Intrigued by all things social, Nishtha will invariably tweet about you. When not tweeting or writing about the next viral video, you will hear her proclaiming her love to Metallica, James Hetfield, Opeth, Akerfeldt and all bands that go 'growl'. She also obsesses about ACP Pradyuman and South Park and you will always find her moving around with a book. Her focus is on all the happening stuff in the tech domain, and she won't hesitate to take a shot at some of the oddball devices that make their way to our labs.
