Pantone 5 (107SH) smartphone can detect radiation

No one has forgotten the tragedy that befell Japan last year and the radiation leaks at the Fukushima plant. A year on, things seem to be getting back to normal and it is from Japan now that the world's first radiation sensing smartphone has come, called Pantone 5(107SH). The highlight of this smartphone by Sharp, is its ability to measure radiation in one's vicinity, be it a park or even within one's home, either automatically or manually. To enhance the use of this feature, the smartphone also sports a dedicated button for measuring radiation. On pressing and holding down the button on the smartphone, one can measure radiation (gamma rays) in the 0.05μSv/h to 9.99μSv/h range. As aforementioned, the user can either manually measure it constantly, or if he chooses to can view it automatically displayed on their map history. The smartphone features the Feel UX UI.

Yet another interesting feature of this smartphone is that it claims to be waterproof, and according to SoftBank, the smartphone comes with IPX5/IPX7 certifications. The IPX5 certification implies that the smartphone is protected against water jets, which simply put is water coming in from all directions through a 6.3mm nozzle, flowing at a rate of 12.5 liters/min at a pressure of 30kN/m2 for 3 minutes from a distance of 3 meters. The IPX7 certification, on the other hand protects a smartphone against water immersion for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter. The phone is also dustproof and has a IP5X certification, which states that the phone is capable of withstanding dust for 8 hours with less than 75μm diameter dust (i.e. equivalent to the certification). SoftBank adds, "Dustproof performance of this machine is a guarantee that the degree of protection equivalent to IP5X, there is no guarantee against the use of methods such as put directly on the sandy beach."

Further SoftBank, on their official website state ".."band (900MHz) platinum band" that is suitable for wireless communication and mobile communication services achieve more likely to lead.
