Optimus G Pro and 55" OLED TV unveiled at the LG Tech Show 2013

LG Electronics, one of the major consumer durables manufacturers, hosted its first ever tech show in Delhi, where it showcased 70 new products. Most of the offerings displayed at the event represented its 2013 line-up spanning across segments such as flat-panel televisions, monitors, projectors, home theatre and component audio systems, in addition to many offerings from its Home Appliances division.

The Korean company unveiled its upcoming flagship Optimus G Pro at the tech show. Although LG hasn't released exact pricing details, the premium smartphone bearing a 5.5" display sporting a stupendous 400ppi resolution will be priced roughly in the range of Rs 40,000. LG remains tight-lipped regarding the precise launch date, but the phone is slated to hit Indian shores sometime around August this year.

Next up was LG's pride and joy in the flat-panel display category—the 55" OLED TV. Unlike other prototypes, this is actually a real commercial product and will be hitting the store shelves in the latter half of this year. In what comes as a pleasant surprise, the LG rep informed us that the OLED TV will be launched in India as well.  While LG remains silent on the pricing of the unit, OLED panels of this size generally are valued at anywhere between $18,000 to $20,000. However, that's the price you pay for deep blacks and vibrant colours in a 4mm thin TV that weighs a mere 10kg.

LG "Hecto" Laser Projector can subtend a 100" image from a mere 22" away from the screen

Those seeking something larger would be interested in the laser projection system dubbed Hecto. The display combines a 100" high-gain screen paired with a state-of-the-art laser projection system that can subtend that large an image even when it's placed just 22" from the screen. However, its biggest USP is its amazing brightness and contrast ratio that allow it to maintain a vivid picture even under normal lighting conditions. Then you also have native 1080p support and smart TV capabilities as well. All this comes at a price, though, as the system costs Rs 7.25 lakhs. The event also saw the presence of LG's answer to Samsung's 2013 Smart TV range, with a smorgasbord of similarly-specced and priced LED-backlit smart TV sets.

The portable PC segment wasn't ignored either. We spotted the LG Tab-Book (H160) and Z360 Ultrabook at the event as well. With these portable devices, LG intends to target those seeking to mix work and play, with a fair bit of mobility thrown in for good measure. The Tab-Book, as the name suggests is the mish-mash of a tablet and a notebook sporting Windows 8. The display slides in and out to reveal and hide the keyboard, thus allowing it to transform from a tablet into a notebook. The 11.6" notebook-cum-tablet weighs in at 1.05kg and is 15.9mm thick, while offering a 10 hour battery life. The Z360 Ultrabook sports a 1080p IPS display in a package that's only 13.6mm thick. Like the Tab-Book it's preloaded with Windows 8 and boasts a boot-up time of a mere eight seconds. At the heart lies Intel's 4th-gen Core i3, i5, and i7 processors.
