[Update] OnePlus will not launch the first device with Snapdragon 855 chipset

Update: OnePlus has confirmed that it will not be the first company to launch a Snapdragon 855 device. The company claims that the original announcement, made by CEO Pete Lau at the Snapdragon Tech Summit in Hawaii was made in error and was a result of "miscommunication".At Qualcomm's annual Snapdragon summit in Maui, Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus announced made an announcement that is certain to make some head turns. Qualcomm has announced its next-gen mobile computing platform which is the Snapdragon 855 chipset. Usually, it is Samsung who is first in line to use Qualcomm's latest flagship SoC chipset on its Galaxy S-series lineup. Now this phone, as reported earlier is not going to be the OnePlus 7 but a new lineup of OnePlus devices.OnePlus CEO Pete Lau took the stage in Maui today to explain Qualcomm and OnePlus' partnership starting from the OnePlus One which used the Snapdragon 801 and since then used the top-end Qualcomm chipset in all its flagship phones.The Snapdragon 855 chipset is the first Qualcomm chipset made using a 7 nm manufacturing process. Qualcomm has said that the chip will be 45 percent faster in the CPU department, feature a 20 percent faster GPU, a new DSP (digital signal processor) for 3x faster AI performance and huge improvements to the camera department.The biggest feature of the Snapdragon 855 is support for gigabit wireless connectivity. 4G connectivity is now faster and more efficient, and also supports 2 Gbps speeds. Support for 5G, via the brand new X50 modem, means that we’re now looking at cellular speeds in excess of 10 Gbps.If OnePlus is planning on launching a new Snapdragon 855 smartphone, it will have to do so before Samsung launches the Galaxy S10 at MWC in February 2019.
