Notion Ink Adam II to sport TI OMAP CPU and 'modular software architecture'

Notion Ink’s first attempt at a tablet, the Adam, may have been a bitter pill for the public to swallow, but this Bangalore-based company is all set to make things right with the Adam II, at least, that's what we hope. Rohan Shravan, the founder of Notion Ink, issued a press release on their official blog that they have teamed up with Texas Instruments for the Adam II. The new tablet (which is still in the works) will sport a TI OMAP 44xx processor ,along with other components from TI like Wi-Link 7.0 and Phoenix Audio Amplifiers. They haven’t specified which chip will be used, but a quick look at TI’s line-up reveals it’s, either the OMAP 4430 or the OMAP 4460. Both these SoCs are based on ARMv7 instruction set and fabricated on the 45nm process. They both possess ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core CPUs with only slight variations in the clock speeds.

Both chipsets also feature the same graphics chip, which is a PowerVR SGX540 and pack in a dual-channel memory controller. The OMAP 4430 has been used in devices like the BB PlayBook and Motorola’s DROID RAZR, whereas the OMSP 4460 can be found in the Galaxy Nexus, so we could expect performance along the lines of these devices from the Adam II. Besides hardware, the successor to the Adam will run Ice Cream Sandwich and boast of the world’s first Modular Based Software Architecture, which will allow beginners with little to no programming knowledge to easily customize their apps. Drag and drop features will be preset, which will enable easy application modification. According to Sharvan, “This System will help consumers, professionals and students become productive as they will be able to use the tablet as a logic analyzer, medical imaging device, signal acquisition and processing, 3D modeling and multi-media.”

We don’t have any further details on as to when we can expect to see at least a prototype of the Adam II. The fact that they were nowhere to be seen at CES 2012, gives us a feeling that it’s going to be a long wait. We just hope for their sake, it’s not too long, since with the onslaught of quad-core tablets and the prices of dual-core tablets already dropping rapidly, the Adam II may be obsolete before it even gets here.
