Nokia entered the tablet segment with the launch of the Lumia 2520 last month. Since then, there have been reports that the Finnish manufacturer may have another tablet in the pipeline, this time an 8-inch one, codenamed the Illusionist. A new report from Digitimes now suggests that the device may be called the Lumia 2020, and that the company could be planning to unveil it as early as the first quarter of 2014.

Citing “sources familiar with the matter”, the report claims that Nokia plans to expand its tablet portfolio with the launch of the new tablet which will be targeted at the mid-range segment. The high-end segment, on the other hand, will be catered to by the Lumia 2520, yet to launch in India.  The Lumia 2020 is rumoured to come with Windows RT 8.1 and a Qualcomm processor packed in. It was earlier thought that the tablet could be shown off at Consumer Electronic Show to be held in January next year, a claim that the new report seems to corraborate. The Lumia 2520 comes with better cameras packed in

Nokia's new 8-inch tablet could be dubbed the Lumia 2020

Another report from NokiaPowerUser brings us even more information about the upcoming tablet. According to this report, Nokia’s rumoured 8-inch tablet will indeed be called the Lumia 2020. It will run on Snapdragon 800 and will have a 1080p resolution display. The new tablet will be faster and have a higher PPI display than the Lumia 2520 and will come with stylus support. Given these specs, we cannot see how the tablet will cater to the midrange segment.

The report claims that this tablet and Nokia’s next imaging flagship, the Lumia 1820, will have a metal unibody design and Lytro-style cameras. Both are expected to be unveiled during MWC 2014, which will take place in February. The last time we had heard about the Lumia 1820 was back in September, when reports claimed that it could be the first device after Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia to drop the latter’s branding.

From what we know about the new Nokia tablet so far, it seems likely that the Lumia 2020 might come with the same look and feel as the Lumia 2520. The latter comes with a 10.1-inch display with 16:9 aspect ratio, full HD resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and runs on Windows RT 8.1. Under the hood, the 2520 is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM.
